Generalization
In Plain Language
A learned skill appears beyond the exact conditions in which it was taught.
ABA Definition
Occurrence of learned behavior across untrained stimuli, settings, people, or response forms, depending on the type of generalization.
Everyday Example
You use a newly learned greeting with people beyond your language tutor.
ABA Example
A learner asks for help with different partners and activities, not only at the teaching table.
How It May Be Used
Plan and check generalization rather than assuming it will happen automatically.
